When we doze off to deep sleep, the muscles of the base of tongue and the throat get relaxed and due to gravity the mandible and tongue drop back. The combination of the above events, make the airways blocked causing some episodes of not breathing for a few seconds at a time. This can cause snoring due to the vibration of the soft tissue while breathing out, and also can cause sudden gasping for air after a few seconds of not breathing.
Having already small breathing tubes, small (under-developed) jaws, large tonsils, being mouth breather, allergy, and alcohol consumption would increase the severity of the sleep apnea.
Remedies:
There are different remedies for sleep apnea and snoring including dental appliances or surgeries.
Dental appliances work for mild to moderate sleep apnea:
- MAD appliances ( Mandibular Advancement Device ) which forwards the mandible and helps it to stay forwarded through the night. This device can help with snoring and improve sleep apnea.
- DNA/mRNA appliances which would expand the upper and lower jaws. By expanding the jaws, we can permanently help with the snoring and sleep apnea issues. Despite the common belief that adults are not able to make new bones, if the stem cells inside the sutures of the jaw get stimulated properly, they will turn into bone cells and expand the jaws. It will happen because our DNA has the Ideal map but due to the wrong environmental forces in childhood (soft food, pacifiers, no breast feeding) the jaws stay underdeveloped however they can grow back to their original plan if the new corrective forces allow it.
Other remedies for sleep apnea are included but not limited to:Surgically sectioning and forwarding the jaws, surgically removing soft tissues blocking the airways, opening the nose, and CPAP machines.
Sleep apnea in children
Sleep apnea in children can contribute to various symptoms such as bedwetting, ADHD, autism, poor school performance, erratic behavior, night terrors, snoring, grinding, and many more. Resolving the sleep apnea issue in children diagnosed with ADHD can potentially lead to their full recovery, reducing the need for medication. Wearing simple removable appliances at night can improve breathing and promote the proper growth of the jaws, which can help with the positioning of adult teeth and potentially eliminate sleep apnea and its associated symptoms. It is possible for children as young as 3 years old to start wearing these appliances.
